The Stable Theatre is located in Oelegem, a small village outside Antwerp – Belgium, the world famous port and capital of diamond trade.
The Stable Theatre is the home of the Jozef Simonskring, an amateur theatre group that celebrates this season its 50th anniversary.
Every theatre season, which runs in Belgium from September to June the following year, this group presents 4 new plays to a theatre-loving public that comes from all over Flanders. About 10 to 15 performances are given of each new production, running in two theatres, that can seat each 70 people.
The Jozef Simonskring has a splendid performance available, suitable for all kinds of international festivals. TRICOLORE COMMEDIA is a visual comedy based on the archetype characters of the Commedia dell’ Arte. With this performance the group has already participated in different foreign festivals. In the 1992 Toyama International Amateur Theatre Festival (Japan) the production won a Gold Award and two Special Awards for the individual performers. TRICOLORE COMMEDIA has also been presented during the 1998 Aruba International Theatre Festival (Dutch Indies) and at the 1999 Chunchon International Theatre Festival (South Korea). In May 2001 we performed at the Masan Festival in South Korea, and at the Tadashi Suzuki Theatre in Toga, Toyama Prefecture in Japan. In May 2002 the performance went to the Liverpool Theatre Festival in Canada. In September 2002, Tricolore Commedia was presented in the People’s Republic of China at the Tieling Amateur Theatre Festival. In May 2005 the production was invited by the Flemish section of the Rotary Club in Antwerp.
The production lasts about 50 minutes and is performed by only two actors. A technical staff of 6 will travel with the actors.
